Over 180 volunteer tutors are working in nine Alexandria City Public Schools right now, helping children learn to read. Kindergartners are mastering their letters and first graders are sounding out more and more words as we close in on the end of the 2nd quarter. Keep up the terrific work, everyone!
Thank you to everyone who supported us & came out the walk in the 2018 Dog Walk for Literacy! We had a terrific time and raised over $28,000 to support ATC’s important work.
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) recognized ATC as “Outstanding Volunteer Organization Volunteer of the Year” for the 2017-2018 school year. Also, several members of the ATC community were awarded individual “Outstanding Volunteer” awards: Susanne O’Neill, ATC’s Book Buddies Coordinator at Maury; Mike Evans, a John Adams tutor; and Julia Hall who accepted an award on behalf of her husband, Vance Hall, for the couple’s many years of tutoring at Lyles-Crouch.
