The Alexandria Tutoring Consortium (ATC) seeks to hire a Book Buddies Coordinator for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a perfect opportunity for an educator who would like to work part-time and help struggling readers learn to read.
About ATC:
ATC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that recruits and trains volunteers to teach reading to kindergarten, first grade, and second grade public school students who need extra help with reading. Using the Book Buddies tutoring model developed at the University of Virginia, ATC hires educators to run tutoring programs in the schools.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and support volunteers who provide reading tutoring to struggling kindergarten, first or second grade readers in Alexandria City Public Schools.
- Create high-quality, differentiated weekly lesson plans for use during tutoring sessions.
- Collaborate continually with other Book Buddies Coordinators and receive ongoing support from an instructional coach who serves as Program Director.
Essential Requirements:
Applicants should have at minimum a Bachelor’s degree in education and recent experience teaching reading to elementary students.
Schedule:
Coordinator works flexible hours during the school day, September – May, supporting tutoring sessions.
