This school year, ATC launched reading tutoring programs in all 14 public elementary schools in Alexandria. We were able to add 60 more children to our programs, bringing us to a total of 255 students. With the increase in Book Buddies, we needed more tutors, and the community stepped up. Our tutoring corps boasts 278 volunteers! Tutors and students are using ATC’s updated lesson plans which are aligned with the Science of Reading.
ATC provides over 500 reading tutoring sessions every week. Our expansion and changes to instruction have resulted in an unprecedented number of children served, with Book Buddies increasing their reading fluency by 20 words per minute, on average, from the beginning of tutoring until now. We are so proud of the growth they have made so far this year.
